Lota in the village of Al -Raba, north of the city of Al -Salamiya in Hama Governorate, Syria, is one of the ancient basalt fortresses built in the nineteenth century on the ruins of a Byzantine settlement. The castle was characterized by its unique circular design and the walls built of large basalt stones, which were formed in simple ways without using a mortar to connect the stones. Research indicates that the site may be an ancient civil settlement, and it contains Roman burials and monuments of multiple periods that extend from the second thousand before birth to Islamic times.
